Austin Convention Center
Danielle Trofe Design will be furnishing select VIP areas at SXSW Eco with a new series of lamps from the award-winning Mush-Lume Lighting Collection. SXSW Eco creates a space for business leaders, investors, innovators and designers to advance solutions that drive economic, environmental and social change. In its fifth year, the conference will feature collaborative events to facilitate direct connections, as well as focused panel sessions and exciting competitions that will introduce attendees to transformative products, technologies and ideas. Through provocative programming, strategic alliances and global participation, SXSW Eco supports the communities creating a positive impact.
The Mush-Lume lamps are grown using Ecovative‘s, an upstate New York biomaterials company, Mushroom® Material technology. The process uses mushroom mycelium and agricultural wastes to create a safe foam-like material that is completely natural, sustainable and biodegradable. Ecovative has successfully commercialized Mushroom® Packaging, a protective packaging product, and Myco Board, a toxic free engineered wood alternative and recently has launched their Grow It Yourself program.
Danielle Trofe Design has been a beta tester of the GIY mushroom material and is an ambassador of promoting the product to designers, students, innovators, and educators, empowering anyone to purchase the material, experiment and grow products and designs using these compostable materials.
The Mush-Lume lighting collection is an effort to challenge and change our ideas about what interior objects are made from as well as the process by which they are produced. By tapping into a unique material science such as mushroom mycelium, we can begin to reimagine a more sustainable future within the lighting industry.
